Connors v Forest of Dean DC, Bristol County Court, Recorder Blunt QC

Ms Connors is an Irish Traveller with 5 children, 2 of whom are disabled owing to a lung condition and hearing impairments. She had travelled all her life except for a short period in which she lived in a house. In June 2014 she had to leave a Traveller site in Stroud and relocated to the Forest of Dean District Council (‘FoD’) area.

Slattery v Basildon BC [2014] EWCA Civ 30, 22 January 2014

Ms Slattery was one of the Irish Travellers who were evicted from the Dale Farm site. Thereafter she moved to a different part of the site where she continued to occupy the land in question unlawfully. She applied as a homeless person and was offered bricks and mortar accommodation which she refused.

This case involved three homeless appeals under Housing Act (HA) 1996 Section 204 by Travellers from the Dale Farm site against the review decisions of Basildon BC (BBC) as to the suitability of offer of “bricks and mortar” (b & m) accommodation made to the Travellers.
