Legal Aid Matters

To celebrate 70 years since the introduction of legal aid in Britain, Justice Alliance have published Legal Aid Matters which contains short pieces on 70 of the most important cases funded by legal aid.

These include two ground breaking cases run by CLP, namely Porter v South Bucks DC (No 1) and R(Moore & Coates) v SSCLG (for the judgments in these cases please see Our Leading Cases – the first under House of Lords and the second under High Court: https://www.communitylawpartnership.co.uk/our-leading-cases

Chris Johnson and Dr Angus Murdoch (then working with CLP) ran the Porter case and, since there were three cases involved until the House of Lords when just two went forward, several counsel were involved: Charles George QC, Richard Drabble QC, Stephen Cottle and David Watkinson.

Parminder Sanghera ran the Moore & Coates case and counsel were Tim Jones and Stephen Cottle.
